Pure speculation. More a fun thought experiment. Given how long it's been trying to get 777s into service, and how it doesn't look like it'll be solved anytime soon, I had the idea of maybe using them elsewhere to get some use out of them ;)

Personal idea would be to replace 171s at Southern with large battery packs and regeared for better top end (acceleration currently is amazing and could still be fast with regearing).

Point of thread is suggestions though, so don't be afraid to suggest your own ideas to discuss. Most importantly, have fun, it's just silly speculation joking about the current situation for the 777s.

Stick the battery ones on Preston - Ormskirk services. Demolish the buffers at Ormskirk and they can still be maintained at Kirkdale. Job done.

While you're at it, do the same at Kirkby and run them through to Wigan Wallgate.
