0750 Norwich - Lowestoft, 0850 return
1036 Norwich - Yarmouth, 1117 return
1458 Norwich - Lowestoft, 1550 return
1736 Norwich - Yarmouth, 1817 return

Formed of 2xDRS 47, two Mk3s and a van.

* "Confirmed" for tomorrow and has been issued as such, believe it is as required from this week UFN as locos and units availability dictates.

Now that I'm on the other side of this arrangement I laugh at how for enthusiasts this is a brilliant event but for crews its a lot of hard work!

I think the drivers like it for being away from the passengers!

I remember when this happened in early 2010, had 57004 and 47712 on a few Yarmouth runs. Anyone who wanted to board or alight at Brundall Gardens had to do so via the DVT!

Brundall Gardens (up and down) and Haddiscoe Up if you are desperate to board or alight via the DVT!

The fleet is stretched really thin at the moment. GA are operating a more intense service with the same number of DMUs as NXEA (GA's 156412 is away being refurbished, while NXEA were short 156417 after the crash), and NXEA needed an LHCS set so this isn't surprising. I was travelling Cambridge - Bury St. Edmunds today, and a rather mangy 156407 turned up instead of the booked 170, and the guard told be that at the last minute his "170 had been nicked to do a Lowestoft job. Also the Wherry Lines and Bittern line aren't running with their normal diagrams due to the stock shortage.

Anyone know why the 1458 was almost lhcs then swapped moments before departure?

I imagine it was because a DMU became available, and it is much easier and cheaper to run a DMU.

Does anyone know what the LHCS set will be running tomorrow (11/4/13)?

I believe the same as yesterday, at least;

0613 Norwich - Yarmouth, 0650 return
0750 Norwich - Lowestoft, 0850 return

Given I'm working them! :)

The 06:42 Cambridge - Ipswich on a Saturday is booked a 156, and the 21:16 Ipswich - Cambridge and the return working are booked a 153. I usually try and aim for those trains to at least get something with opening windows and good ride quality!

Then during 2011 all stops at the 'Gardens' with this train where withdrawn. In the usual modern railway cock-up fashion this was over-turned in the last few days after causing weeks of inconvenience for punters at this station. This time around we are stopping again (for now) with guards DVT door the only means of access.

I am in Norwich between 1527 and 1552, I assume it probably won't be about when I am there then.

I was on the 1544, so deffo booked for a 170 :P
Is the 0642 booked as a 153 on weekdays, I could have sworn it was. I assume it is a 156 on Saturdays due to the insatiable 153 lust of the Sudbury line at weekends :P

Can they not just stop the train further up the platform, or will this cause a problem with SDO?

We have no SDO on GA mk3s. Passengers must use DVT guards door here. Trouble is these days nobody can make a decision & stick to it.

There are a few photos on Facebook, these being from a member of GA's Safety Critical staff who doesn't know how to limit his\her profile! Although there's nothing to say I shouldn't, however I won't link directly to their profile but I will give you a link to the image and those who want to fiddle with the data in the URL to find the profile, feel free! I do stress, these aren't my photos.

Saxmundham. (A town and station on the East Suffolk line roughly mid-way between Ipswich and Lowestoft. Unusual for a train to terminate there nowadays though.)
