I’m sure there’s forum members on here that live in the above area. As many may be aware, there’s a group of youths that repeatedly assault passengers and staff, access the PA and start playing music and often expletives, and recently have started gaining access to intermediate cabs and sounding horns.

If you see anything please contact the BTP, the more reports, the more resources that should be used.

    Sounds awful
Godalming seems such a posh town I'm surprised

Perhaps it would be a good idea to report all incidents to the BTP.

If they build up a picture of the pattern of this behaviour, then maybe the BTP can eventually send some undercover officers on to the trains at the right time, and give the little scrotes a nasty shock.

Perhaps a copy of this to BTP? Just a thought.

Just to clarify, BTP are aware, however if lots of members of the public are reporting this, hopefully it expedites the whole process and possibly even gets land sheriffs permanently deployed.

The driver of a train refused to enter Guildford station (with his train!) until it was to be met with a "large number" of police officers yesterday due to this particular group causing a considerable amount of disorder on board the train. Sadly, a necessary action to ensure the request for police is taken seriously and the train is actually met in good time.

That’s interesting to know. Did you find this out through Messroom chat or do you have access to the logs?

I was returning from a course in Petersfield last week (16.57 to Waterloo) when a noisy gang of teenagers got on at Godalming (I think). Some were in my carriage. Their demeanour suggested they had been taking drugs of some sort, one was violently banging a window. Someone hijacked the PA briefly. The ones in my carriage got off at Farncombe or possibly Guildford. They didn't approach me fortunately. I thought at the time it was a one off event but it seems not. Sounds like the same group.

Arrests were made in August but the two persons were quickly released (as usual...), but BTP are still encouraging passengers to report anything.

It was the 1132 from Pompey (1P38) and was terminated at Woking due to the delay.

I have my sources, and the above post is correct.

I wasn’t doubting that it was correct, sorry if it came across that way.

I was a student in Guildford in the late 90s and none of this surprises me - the only time in my life I've felt I've had to report crime on the railway was when I witnessed a sexual assault between Woking and Guildford.

Farncombe was the hotspot in those days, the only thing that stands out from the piece in the local rag is that Milford and Witley are included by the police as locations of interest.

The kids are feral between Guildford and Haslemere, this has been on going for quite a while now and a lot of the staff at my depot are at the end of their tether. A lot of us feel it is only a matter of time before a more serious assault occurs.

I can only hope the Police and local authorities can sort it out before it happens.

You can add Liphook and Liss to that too in all honesty. It's grim and at times pretty scary on the slows. It's become more noticeable since the fasts added the Godalming stop as it's affecting both fast and slow trains now. In my experience it's mainly Farncombe, Godalming and Liphook. I feel for the guards as winter approaches with its darker nights and increased risk. Then again 4pm on a Sunday is a new low. If all drivers made the same decision and refused to enter Guildford each time SWR would have to start listening to their crews and do something as the disruption would have a much more noticeable impact. Obviously, few drivers would put their jobs at risk like that but props to Sundays driver who should be commended. It already is out of control. Are the unions doing anything behind the scenes to support their staff?

I believe the unions are applying as much pressure as they can without being in dispute, rumour has it that one of them tried to gain access to the front cab recently, so it’s not just an issue for RMT, but for ASLEF too.

I can’t say for certain but I’d be very much surprised if they attended school at all

They have been causing problems all summer. Drunk or high or both, aggressive, enjoy spitting and have no fear of the police.

Think weybridge area and woking was bad
Remember about 15 years ago feeling intimidated on a train from weybridge to Staines
Not aware of this on the southern routes from Portsmouth to Brighton or Gatwick even Crawley seems ok most the time

If this has been going on for some time, rather proves that all the "See it, Say it, Sorted" stuff is just hot air.

Have the local MP (or MP's) and councillors been informed?

They might be able to put a bit more pressure on the BTP and local constabulary to perhaps do a bit more.

A Driver wouldn't lose their job for that if it's justified. I've done similar things myself a few times and never even heard a thing from my managers.

I have a feeling 9 buzzes on the bell will be used more regularly soon enough, if the control logs are anything to go off of...

Apologies - it didn't but I didn't think it would be a good idea to divulge too much information on a public forum.

These particular kids have been causing trouble for years and they have obtained L/T/crew keys/whatever you'd like to call them, hence them having access to the PA and other areas of the train.

I believe the above is part of Sunday's catalyst to the driver not taking the train into the station.

except the bells don’t work for the guard at speeds of more than 6mph on a desiro apparently. There will be a few yellow button calls I’m sure though.
