Humour me, but I was recently wondering if there are any adult (18+) fares left on the national rail network that are under a pound - including railcard discounts? I tried a few short distances between stations on thetrainline and haven't found anything under the figure.
You could travel outside of Zone 1 on London tube and rail services for just 95p as recently as 2012, provided you had a railcard loaded onto an Oyster card. It's been £1.00 since the 2013 fare increases and will remain so in 2015.
I know Southern Rail did a huge online sale a few years back offering something ridiculous like 80-90% off the standard price and selling tickets for literally a few pence, but when I attempted to log on the website I couldn't load it, presumably due to an overcrowded fare.
