Hi,

On Wednesday I have to travel from Cambridge to London and return the same day.

I have a network railcard.

I have noticed that if I depart before ten and return before 5 pm the prices are different for the Anytime Day Return. I suppose it is because the discount of the network railcard does not apply to before 10 and before 5 pm.

My question is, if I buy an Anytime Day Return will this difference be shown on the ticket? It is an Anytime ticket after all.

Best regards,

Mikaila

Yes, the Railcard discount will be printed on the ticket.

And that means it is not valid for travel before 10am (there is no evening restriction on using the Railcard).

It's perhaps worth emphasising this - in terms of the evening restrictions the OP is encountering, these are based on the ticket type - i.e. the return leg of a Cambridge-London Off-Peak Day Return (so for travel back from London) cannot be used on evening peak trains.

The rule with the Network Railcard that it's not valid before 10am on weekdays is very straightforward - there are a few exceptions (easements in railway speak) to this but they are clearly set out on the website and I think in the Network Railcard leaflet too.

Unless you buy the cheaper GA only fare and travel to Liv St or Tott Hale, in which case there is no evening restriction

The rail industry has a system described as "simple fares" which means that the restrictions vary depending on the origin, destination, direction, whether it's a day or period return, which london terminal your train departs from, what route is printed on the ticket and various other factors.
