So its an general chat about your duties, the hearing test, the eyesight test, blood pressure, then they lock your things in a tin box and give you the key, and you give them a urine sample in a bottle (Remember NOT to flush the loo!) and its over,

Mine took max 45mins

Chaz: Got any updates on your progress, or are you still waiting to hear back?

Not yet, sadly my letterbox doesn't have an internet connection to the forums either..

Cheers for that all

Haha, yes Coxster i really wish i could skip to the end of the month already. Ive not drank for about a week and definately no drugs. When i was younger I did have trouble with those colourblind tests, however I was sent to a specialist who found i wasnt colourblind. How much of an impact do you think it will have if i fail... Im pretty sure i will pass.

The job is train dispatcher

Not at all Mintona...

Im actually not sure which station... how ever its "Manchester area" If the job gained is relief than it could be any station with dispatchers in the west area.

Your guess is as good as mine

Good chance of it being Oxford Road. There are 2 vacancies up there, and I think 2 of them are just leaving to progress in the company too, so there will be 4 gaps.

I remember that from my medical. What was the reason for that? As an check that you're not decanting from another container into your pot?

No, they check you for that. Its so you don't throw any substances away that could be hidden in your socks or pants, to purify your urine of any drugs that could be found within.

Thats what the BUPA lady told me when I asked!

Which position have you applied for Geeves?

If its 14 days then there is no way I am going to be starting on the 26th then, i guess?

Chaz, on the second letter it says "Customer service/Dispatcher - Manchester Victoria platforms"

Bad luck mate :( Have they put you on a waiting list for when the next round of vacancies come out, or do you have to reapply? In the case of the driver's assessments, your results are valid for a couple of years I believe - might be worth finding out if it's the same for the guard/conductor ones. Would maybe save you having to retake them anyway.

I think it's a case of "Need not Reapply" if another job crops up they will contact you, I'm down for either Piccadilly or Buxton Depots anyway.

Damn recession..

Passed Medical. No Job available..

Back to square one.

WTF!?

Can they do that? You've gone through interviews and assessments and a medical and then they decide that there's no job?

Also, I wouldn't be too sure about the need not reapply. I asked them about that in my interview, and was told that they didn't keep details on file. It may be different for people who've passed all the stuff though.

Aye, I've lost the letter at the moment but it was something along the lines of "Recruitment Plans have changed for 2009" I presume it was the recession kicking in.

If I see something crop up I'll drop them an email.

Must be annoying to see the jobs up now for Liverpool, Newcastle and Carlisle! I'm sure you'll get there in the end though :)

Ahhh good old Dennis. Brilliant man, would like to see him again.
Yep, I know exactly who you mean, he is a friend on Facebook, I won't name him on here though.
How is the training going mate?

The training is going very well, no problems at all. I've quite enjoyed the last 3 weeks, it was (and still is) a strange feeling to be travelling around by train to random stations for free... as well as getting paid! at least for the work stuff. They took us to the signalling school today, very interesting indeed.

We have one final day and then from Friday onwards we are at our home stations... hoorah!!

How is it all going now mate?

Out of interest, conductor's jobs at Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Victoria, Buxton and Liverpool Lime Street (and a few others on the east) have appeared in this week's internal vacancy list. As well as drivers at Buxton, Manchester Victoria and some other places.

Yes they can, its happened to a few who were on my rules course, and its not just happened at Northern.

Hi, Im currently processing through the application for a trainnee driver position at Manchester Piccadilly. I passed the first SCAAT test and Northern interview. I've been to Doncaster and passed the tests and interview there and completed my medical yesterday. Im hopeful now about being offered a position, but after reading previous experiences I'm not counting on anything until recieve an offer. How long do you reckon it takes between having the medical and hearing from the company? The woman at BUPA said I'd passed everything and just waiting for the drug tests, but seens as I dont partake in that vice I have no doubt about the outcome of the test.
Cheers

Hopeful,

How long did it take from the closing date of the position until you were notified that you got through the first stage? I'm waiting myself to see if I have got through the first stage of the process for another trainee post.

Hi,

It was about 3 weeks, just over I think before I got the letter. It was quite tight between getting the letter and going for the first days test. My letter came on the Fri and had to be in Manchester on the Monday. Good luck on the wait
