Now it’s 18 months until PRM deadline I thought I create this thread for Wales & Borders fleet updates going in for PRM works. Also when is the first unit due of for they toilets to be refitted expect for the Pacers which will go off lease.

In the last week or so including today there were a around 3 cancellations this morning due to shortage of train units where 150s are normally booked on. Wonder if one is out for modifications?

It's got to the point where 150s and 158s will have to be sent away for mods even if there's nothing available to cover for them. If ATW / Keilos wait for the 769s they could be waiting until next summer.

The 769 programme is running into lot of delays and at this rate the 230’s will arrive before a 769 is in passenger service

Any ideas how TfW's PRM plan can be saved given the fact that we're unlikely to see the 769s operating in Wales this year, or next year, or in 2020..............

Some world class portaloos on platforms and derogations for the mixed bag of non compliance?

Am I dreaming, or was there a post saying the 158s would be done at Mach using modules sourced in Wales? I also assume 175s could be done at Chester.

I'd like to think the units to be modified were 'booked in' with whoever's doing the work at the same time the 769s were ordered, based on the quoted delivery dates.

The 769s are late and the slots will have been lost so new ones will have booked based on the revised delivery dates.

Repeat as necessary.

Im not sure. I do know the Welsh Government said they'd fund the bog tank emptying facility at Mach. In reality, they'll be funding everything through the subsidy they'll be paying KeolisAmey of course.

Can't take it as an official source but there was a Facebook post immediately after the award was announced saying that the programme had already started. We don't seem to have any members on the Forum from ATW who are in the loop
That’s correct. 150264, 150285 & 158822 all currently stopped for PRM at Crewe. 264 & 822 due for completion next week.

So Wales' first PRM modified 150s & 158s will be in revenue earning service by the end of this month? I won't believe it until I've seen photos and been on it myself!

If the mods program is starting in the absence of 769s, we can start to look forward to lots more short formations very soon

So are you saying that previous reports of 158818 and 835 being PRM modified were incorrect?

No, but it won't be obvious that any definite progress is being made with Wales' PRM plans, as there have been so many set backs and false starts, until PRM modified units start appearing in revenue earning service.

Both 158818 and 835 are back in traffic

Indeed there is no way ATW are short of 3 units without consequences.

The 0813 Barry to Cardiff Central this morning was formed of a 2 car 175.

Which I assume means some 150s are definitely out of service, presumably for PRM modifications.

If GWRs 158957 is still with ATW that'll help avoid some short forming and cancellations.

The 0813 ex Barry comes up from Carmarthen and works a trip from Cardiff to Barry and return before going off to Cheltenham. Should be 150. GWR 158957 was on booked working amended due Severn Tunnel closure, finishing at Canton Friday night staying until Monday morning so ATW hired just for the weekend. It was trapped on the Cardiff side of the block.

Presumably there's a shortage of 150s at the moment due to PRM modifications then?

Fair enough, thought it might be over here for the duration of the tunnel closure.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
A quick question here: In a few weeks time it will be the Royal Welsh Show in a field near Builth Wells. There is normally a special working from Cardiff to Builth Road via Swansea District Railway (outward in morning, return evening) which based on my unscientific observations is normally a Class 150+ dogbox.

Would these normally be spare, or are they borrowed from other services resulting in a temporary short form?

There are no such things as 'spare' units for ATW, esp not in high summer.

They "squeeze" the fleet or reduce formations on the Cardiff Valleys

:!:ATW have a plan in place to cover units away for PRM mods for the summer holidays anyway. It revolves around the fact that AM/PM peak commuters also take their annual leave at this time.
Peak time passenger loadings are usually lower during school summer holidays but no so much lower that TOCs can half the number of carriages on services.

ATW regularly pre-cancel some early services now due to "more than usual......." , 0910 Swansea to Newport, the 153 for which goes down from Cardiff attached to 0714 ex Cardiff Cen (short formed) and the 0507 Machynlleth to Barmouth and return being regular candidates for the chop. Other regulars are services between Cardiff and Cheltenham (ex Maesteg) with XC Cardiff to Notttinghams taking up any special stops. Twiiter reply to day re a short form actually quoted units undergoing "accessibility mods"
