Just been reading the latest issue of Today's Railways UK and it says that the North Wales Coast diagram will not run on summer Saturdays like it did last year. I seem to recall it was never mentioned to be running on Saturdays until after the summer season now why was that?

It was never confirmed as a runner until the day before due to a doubt as to whether train crew would be available.

You've already said it won't quoting Todays Railways.
But it didn't last year and it did but this wasn't published until after it was too late which was frustrating for me because I would have wanted to go to Manchester last August during a weekend heatwave had I known it was running on a Saturday I would have gone up there:cry:

A reply was given in Post #2. Suggest you ask ATW as nobody on the Forum can probably tell you. They were not advertised because of the doubt in running. Nobody could tell you now if there was going to be a traincrew available on a date in the middle of August, hence the last minute information.

Weren't the Saturday runs just Crewe-Holyhead unadvertised extras?
As the set seems out of action anyway (2x150 recently) the prospects aren't good.

Yes, they were unadvertised so there was nothing to cancel. It is not this set that has been covered by 2x150 the last couple of days. These Saturday extras were worked by the Cardiff Set but it is the Manchester set that has not worked this week due to lack of drivers with suitable traction knowledge.

LHCS (67008) back on Manchester today.

Yesterday (Wed), Gerald did not make it in the morning because of overrunning engineering works west of Rhyl.
DMU substitution from Chester.
Luckily my trip south was on Tuesday!

The initial reason Gerald didn't make it was because 67002 failed at Chester the night before but, would have suffered due to the Overrun. Not a DMU forward but 67002 having worked ECS to Crewe, received attention, and worked 0711 Crewe to Chester and then Gerald forward from Chester to Cardiff, late.

It was not due to being out of action but due to driver shortage with traction knowledge. Is becoming a regular occurrence.

There's serious issues with not enough train crew having traction knowledge which is causing a lot of the cancellations.

It also takes up units which are in short supply already

The Manchester Paupers WAG only covered as LHCS today due to same Driver off 1D51 0711 Crewe to Chester working 1V91 the Cardiff WAG forward from Chester with 24 minutes delay to the latter.

It's more a case of shortage of traincrew in general, and as only a portion of the drivers sign the loco, then it hits that hardest as its hard to get it covered.

Are you just making an educated guess or was that info actually made public? Genuinely curious.

Picked up from WNXX Forum. The posters who post on the LHCS are found to be reliable.

All OK this morning except carriage missing on Paupers, 3 instead of 4.

Fair enough - I was just curious because the info was accurate but I hadn't seen it released to the public anywhere.

Last night (1st July) the LLO-CRE terminated at the Junction presumably because there was no trained driver. Anyone know what happened to it - nothing obvious in RTT although there are LLJ-HHD ECS last night and HHD-Crewe CS this morning shown as VT, with no thing obvious forming it.

I saw 5T45 leave Holyhead this morning, I can confirm it was the Manchester LHCS set with an EWS-coloured 67 on it.

Holyhead to Cardiff Gerallt this morning worked by 175112 with trolley service.
Reported as Train Fault but this explanation can be a little vague at times, could be either loco or stock. 175112 would appear to have stepped up from 08 05 Holyhead to Cardiff, and an additional unit sent down on the daily ECS from Chester to Llandudno Jn and which formed an additional STP ECS thence to Holyhead and 0805 to Cardiff.

Same again 1716 Cardiff to Holyhead tonight, . Reported that fault was with loco (unknown as little gen posted on Forums/Yahoo recently) but OK for tomorrow

1W96 1716 Cardiff to Holyhead tonight (Friday 15th) terminated Hereford, then ran ECS to Chester to restart. Described as "operational incident" and elsewhere on Journey Check as "Safety Incident" so would appear driver in clear whatever it is.

Reported as the DVT door open in traffic on departure from Newport.

Looks as 67002 was leading then. Which end the loco is can vary as it is the only LHCS Cardiff drivers work, so Loco & DVT can swap to provide experience of driving both.

Cardiff have two jobs - as well as working the evening train as far as Chester they also bring the set onto Canton in the morning on arrival from Holyhead - it was more of an issue for Crewe drivers as they only worked the morning train so it needed swapping for them. That's gone now as with the 2nd set running in north Wales they now have another 2 seperate jobs involving LHCS, which sees them use both ends.

I'm on an ALR and haven't had best of luck with it this week!

Initially intended to do the Cardiff-Holyhead dinner on Wednesday but it wasn't running. Got breakfast Thursday morning though after overnighting in the Travelodge.

So did dinner tonight instead but only intending to go to Shrewsbury (and thence by other routes). At Newport we started moving then stopped again for a good few minutes before restarting and nothing seemed unduly amiss. First thing we knew was on approach to Hereford when it was announced it would be terminated. I'd had starter and mains (as had most people) so we were given vouchers to get complimentaries from the trolley on the following train, but the catering crew (who are always excellent) packed me a piece of cake in a takeaway tray.

I didn't wait for the train to Shrewsbury and got the LM to Birmingham instead, but disappointed to miss the Marches bit as the weather had just turned nice. Horrible for people going to North Wales - there was a Manchester behind which would go to Shrewsbury and the next through train to Chester (an hour later) went via Crewe rather than via Wrexham. Those heading for North Wales would have been looking at over an hour's delay.

Should add I did it on an ALR last year and it was fine both ways!

Running today but starting and finishing at Holyhead and worked by WAG Cardiff Set and 67013. I have posted the details on the Real Time Trains thread due to it's not appearing there.:-

The extra weekend trains have always used the Cardiff-holyhead set as far as I recall.
;
ATW seem to have managed to run a full service this week, but several cancellations today down to "ongoing operational challenges" again

Strange nobody has asked about the additional LHCS on the North Wales coast today. It is running, loco is 67002 which is now on the Cardiff WAG Set. Timings same as last week, not in RTT but in Open TrainTimes.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Somebody tweeted ATW today to ask if the Class 37 was operating today on the Manchester/North Wales.:sad:
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

After several weeks of 67015 on the Manchester to North Wales LHCS, 67003 took over today. There has been a suggestion this loco has been on a rogue list so, whatever it was, the problem must have been fixed.
