For the first time in a while I was out and about with my camera. Derby day is the start of the Melbourne Cup Carnival with extra trains running to Flemington Racecourse.
We begin however at Newport with 788M-2544T-787M with a Newport-Williamstown shuttle at North Williamstown. Williamstown shuttle is one of the few places on the network that sees 3 car trains.
On the other platform at North Williamstown we have a shrinkwrapped TC HCMT carshell delivered from CCRC in China. When delivered the trains are unloaded off the truck, placed on workshop bogies and put into a holding yard by traverser, when the time comes the train is put into the shed to begin assembly. I assume this TC car is for set 2
This year the Flemington Racecourse trains have been sourced from the X'trapolis fleet. More done to reduce the mileage of the Comeng fleet.
Here 154M leads a down at Kensington.
Inbetween the flurry of race trains N472 with a 5 car N set with a down Shepperton train. Of note the rear 3 cars are in the new PTV livery which is progressively being rolled out on V/Line trains.
223M is on the rear of a race train heading back to the city for more racegoers.
208M on the rear of a Flemington bound race train.
You would of noticed in the last shot some grain wagons. At the other end at Kensington S302 and S317 sit shut down after delivering a load of grain to the Mill at Kensington. It's the last place where a train unloads in the suburban area. All others are well outside or go to Dynon and the Ports.
Not all train lines look good and the Upfield line at this point is rather uninspiring with the Tullamarine Freeway running right above it. Here we have EDI comeng 542M on the back of a down upfield near Macaulay.
A little closer to the city is the Macaulay Light Repair Centre. A small depot designs to do well light repairs. At the moment though it's the centre of the Comeng life extention project. 455M-1078T-456M are the next in line to get the life extention refurb. 456Ms front livery has been stripped off and is now showing the white "smile" and blue with black around the headlights of it's original refurbished livery when it was run under the M>train brand
Back in the city heading up Latrobe Street is for the time being a slightly rare sight of a W class tram with W8.946 on an anti clockwise city circle. Every W class tram except the W8s have been withdrawn due to crashworthy issues.
Coming down Latrobe Street is E.6050 with a route 86 Waterfront City Docklands
E2.6056 on route 86 passes A1.233 with a route 30 to Etihad Stadium. Although as of October first Etihad Stadium is now known as Marvel Stadium. Route 30 is currently running on weekends to cover for the lack of city circle trams along Latrobe Street.
Parked up between jobs in the yard at Southern Cross is Y163 wearing the new PTV livery for V/Line locomotives.
In one of the more stranger allocations A1.242 is on a shortworking 86 to Parliament Station on Spencer Street. Given the 86 sees the likes of B2s and E/E2 trams I can only imagine this tram became a tight squeeze down Bourke Street.
Looking down Bourke Street with E.6009 loading passengers while on route 96 to St Kilda.
C.3029 is about to turn onto the light rail with a 109 to Port Melbourne. The Cs have had thier destos replaced with new LED ones and inside they have 2 LCD PIDS an upgrade from thier previous system which could only hold a few routes.
Z3.151 joins the median strip of Kings way with a route 58 to Toorak.
Coming into Flinders Street the direct way is life extension Comeng 396M with an Up Sandringham.
Departing Flinders Street for Frankston is an EDI refurb comeng. Once again the trains are growing mustaches for Movember.
An Alstom refurb comeng on the down.
An X'trapolis trailed by 960M departs Flinders Street for Lilydale.
