The number of Adelaide rail services currently operating has been slashed after a mechanical fault was identified, resulting in remaining trains becoming packed with passengers.
Fifty of the 70 diesel engines have been taken out of commission for inspection after a problem was reported on Wednesday.
Services on the Outer Harbor, Gawler and Belair lines will now run half-hourly, while Grange rail services are being replaced by buses.
