Today as part of the testing of the very very late HCMT. Unit 4 was transferred back to Newport Workshops to continue the testing program on the Werribee Line. The day before Unit 2 was brought back to Pakenham East to complete it's testing.
It's the first time one has been moved around in the daylight hours.
SSR's T385 leads Power van BVDY51 and P16 with HCMT Unit 4 behind. The power car is used to keep the batteries charged on the HCMT. If the batteries go flat the brakes apply along the train. The strange position of the power car between the locos is because mounting the transition coupler is easier on the locomotive than on the power van.
At the rear of the HCMT is nothing special. Just an end of train marker attached to the coupler of 9904. In normal operation the coupler will be hidden.
