Hi

Does anyone know the line speeds of each section of track between London Paddington and Exeter St. D via the Berks & Hants route? This would be really good if you can help :D

Cheers

Ryan

Which particular section do you require information on?
Because those documents can take about 15 minutes to download, even with a reasonably fast connection speed!

Most of it's cleared for 110mph, there's some low speed limits in places though like grafton curve - 70mph.

There's a restriction of 100mph through Somerton Tunnels, 90 through Castle Cary, 90/100 at Bruton, 100 on the Westbury avoider, 75mph at Hungerford, 60 at Southcote Junction Reaidng.

The B&H is essentially a lot of branchlines knitted together, with some new build, really for the GWR to race to LSWR/Southern down to Devon and Cornwall.

Most of the current signalling is 70s/80s. Before then it was GWR lower quadrant signals.

It's now 3 aspect as far as Castle Cary, and 2 Aspect signalling from Castle-Cary to Cogload Junction north of Taunton.

Control is by Reading PSB to near Westbury. There's a separate B&H panel in Reading PSB, that takes over from around Aldermaston. From Westbury to Altheney its Westbury PSB,
then Exeter PSB picks up from there

The B&H panel at Reading was recently transferred to the new Thames Valley Signalling centre at Didcot AFAIK.

I hate having everything centralised, it is generally a very poor strategy and only benefits the money men.

Unless there have been some very recent upgrades there are only 3 sections of 110 mph:

51 M 50 Ch BHL - 58 M 50 Ch BHL
76 M 10 Ch BHL - 83 M 20 Ch SWY
86 M 40 Ch SWY - Ch 94 M 45 Ch SWY
