Would someone be kind enough to look at The Manual or NFM 06 (ain't got a copy yet!) for the following:

Banbury (BAN) to London Zones 1-6 (0035).

Specifically the validity code and what it says for the Super Off Peak Travelcard (STO).

Reason I ask is confusing information coming from public sources. National Rail website says this fare at £21.00 is valid on services arriving into London after 10am. Chiltern, on the phone, said it is only valid for arrival into London after 1345 Mon-Sat (and it doesn't show on their booking engine at all - no matter what times you throw at it, not even on a Sunday!)

Have Chiltern withdrawn the STO and not bothered to tell National Rail/ATOC?

Would also be interested to know the return validity if the BAN-0035 STO still exists. NFM 05 said return by any train, against the STO validity code of 'CH'. Handy if that's still the case so's can jump on a 'fast' out of Paddington in the evening peak!

I hope this helps. There is no STO in NFM06...

The only travelcard fares from BAN to 0035 are an Off-Peak Day Travelcard (ODT) at £28.70 and Standard Anytime (ADT) and First Anytime (FDT) Day Travelcard.

The ODT has the validity code 'CH' which syas that for journeys to/via London Marylebone it is valid by any train except those timed to arrive at London Terminals before 1005 Mondays to Fridays. If routed via Reading it is valid on any train except those timed to arrive at Reading before 0930 Mondays to Fridays.

Return travel on either route can be by any train. Validity Code CH is managed by Chiltern Railways.

It appears that this fare has indeed been withdrawn.

Ticket type STO and retriction CH both still exist, so it is possible the product is still offered from station(s) other than Banbury.

The absence from the NFM CDs of the list of evening train restrictions from Paddington has been debated recently. See my post in the Splitting and joining/alighting short thread.

Thanks for the info guys, still appears to a be an exploitable loophole to allow travel on a 'fast' in the evening peak out of PAD with a CDR/ODT from Banbury to London. At least journey planners show options which include apparently 'barred' trains.

Does rather hack me off when National Rail Enquiries website shows the Super Off Peak Travecard as still available though. Bunch of muppets at ATOC, who couldn't organise a knees up in a brewery.

If it IS still available (don't have access to a machine at the moment to check) the restrictions would be the same as the point-to-point Super Off-Peak, namely:

Not valid to arrive into London Terminals before 13:00 Mondays to Fridays (*NOT* 13:45, as stated in The Manual!) excluding Public Holidays, nor to leave London Terminals before 10:30, nor between 15:45 and 19:55, Mondays to Fridays (excluding Public Holidays). Valid any time at weekends and on Public Holidays.

Cheers,

Barry

Madness. So now on a Saturday following the withdrawal on the Super Off Peak Travelcard it is cheaper to buy a Super Off Peak Return (£18.00) plus a seperate Travelcard (£7.50) than it is to buy the Off Peak Day Travelcard (£28.70). If you just want Marylebone/Paddington on a day return why bother with the Off Peak Day Return (£25.00) when the Super Off Peak Return is £7.00 cheaper?

Impartial retailing means selling the cheapest available ticket for the journey specified. What would I pay if I asked at Banbury for a day return to London on a Saturday?

Depending on what you are planning to do in London, it may be cheaper to use Oyster PAYG in London in conjunciton with a return to London terminals.

Avantix NHM 06 shows the super off peak return from Banbury to London terminals as having restriction code PV. The restrictions on this still say that they can't be used for arrivals before 1345 on Saturdays & Bank Holidays.
Travel via Reading: valid for trains arriving at Reading after 13:15. Mon-Sat & bank holidays.
If you go via Reading at weekends you can also get weekend first upgrade on FGW services for £5.
