wasn’t sure where to put this so mods please feel free to move this if necessary.

Is there a list anywhere of what the barrier “Seek Assitance” error codes mean ?

Just interested.

Thanks.

Usually means that there is an issue with your smart card or contactless Bank card and you will need to speak to a member of staff about this.

I've just had a code 125 at Victoria and a 126 at Euston, what so silly is my ticket isn't an anytime any route ticket to Wolverhampton its a fully itineraried advance ticket with reservations, what's even weirder is it didn't have a problem letting me through LU barriers so I give up trying to understand what the hell the ticket data was telling the barriers

It could be deliberately programmed like that to force a manual inspection of Advance tickets. The barriers at Stevenage station reject every Advance ticket so they can manually check them. I've stopped trying them now and just go to the person manning them to get through.

It's not just the advance tickets though, travelcards have the same issue as I get Error 09 at every GTR barrier yet I don't with Greater Anglia or TfL...

The Travelcard in question is a Super Off Peak Travelcard with a Network Railcard discount which I use on weekends, been told that it's the encoding stripe is bent, that GTR has never got the barriers to accept these tickets etc...

As to the kind member sharing the error codes, thank you!

The barriers at Bedford and Huntingdon are set to disallow the child tickets that have been bought as part of a child flat fare on Thameslink. I think it's so they can be manually inspected.

It might be set to reject any Railcard tickets. I get stopped at gatelines randomly with my smartcard and also with paper tickets for manual checks, because I have a railcard-discounted ticket they want to check I am travelling with my railcard (Ironically, when I'm travelling using my smartcard they never bother to really check the ticket properly).

The problem with rejecting so many valid tickets is that the manual inspection is not done. The person supposedly doing the checking just lets anyone with a piece of cardboard that vaguely resembles a ticket through the manual gate.

Thing is GTR constantly tells me it’s because the encoding strip is at fault as it’s unreadable yet works fine on TfL and Greater Anglia gatelines so why is that?

Error 09 is the gate failing to read the magnetic strip on the ticket. This is almost always a demagnetised ticket, often if the ticket has been near something else giving off a magnetic field, such as certain mobile phones or contactless card readers. Error 07 is often the same thing, and happens when the gate is reading the magnetic strip but doesn't understand the information, often this is because the strip was not processed correctly by the previous gate or it has not read it correctly, this error will sometimes go away simply by trying again. Some barriers are better than others too, which seems odd but as the readers are essentially mechanical they are subject to wear and tear.
