Having now scanned several thousand photos mostly since lockdown, thought it is time to share a few more.

I have written in a previous post about taking the first rail tour around the Cumbrian Coast back on the 31st July 2003. Here are a few more from that date, starting with 86258 that had brought the tour up from London to my boarding point at Preston

PICT3253.JPG

Having travelled to Preston it was time to go all the way back again, though taking the Dalton loop to the Cumbrian Coast thus avoiding Barrow to the S&C eventually ending up alighting at Stockport (for some reason we were diverted away from Preston) for a long journey home! . The locos for this tour were 37358 and 37381. At the time 358 was already my highest mileage tractor having been taken on two other occasions on Blackpool to Liverpool runs

Next a few from Preston. Confirmation that the APT I went on was 370006/007 (1984 I think), followed by 47306 on an Engineers train and a Pacer heading to Colne (circa 87/88)

PICT0512.JPG PICT0026.JPG PICT0025.JPG

Finally for this instalment, taken on a holiday to the South West, 92220 Evening Star on a West Somerset Minehead to Bishops Lydeard train.

So far this project has added a few more red lines to the haulage book, including Pannier 6412 that I thought I had red penned in 20q6 on the South Devon Railway, it was in fact a winner back in October 1987 on the WSR seen here again at Minehead!!!

Hope there is something in there of interest to you, and most of all say safe! Maybe more to follow at some point

Now I have scanned well. a good few thousands photos, including tracing my earliest move back to 18th July 1981 behind 33018 from Crewe to Cardiff, I thought it was time to start sharing some more. So for the next instalment we go back to 7th May 1988 and the Severn Valley Railway Gala. Now at the time this was a long trip, so we didn't have time to do a full return, so my locos of the day were 20170, 37427 and kettle 7819.

47484 IKB heading north at Crewe taken during a change (Sorry no details of theservice). This was heading north whilst we were waiting for 87035 for the journey to Birmingham NS.

PICT6329.JPG

Taken at the gala, in no particular order are 156404, 59001 and 20170

PICT1201.JPG PICT1203.JPG PICT6330.JPG

finally an unidentified 87 taken from Stafford to Lancaster on the journey home - I forgot to record its number!

PICT6336a.JPG

To finish this instalment a few 'randoms'
Firstly 47449 at the original Morecambe station on a VSOE special celebrating the centenary of the 'Lancashire Eveinng Post' in 1988
PICT4526.JPG

and to finish Flying Scotsman at Barrow In Furness - sorry date unknown.
PICT4987.JPG

Later in 1987, on 4th July I attended the Crewe Works Open Day. Has anyone on here who also went, any record of what worked the shuttles from Crewe Station or was it bus that time? I have lost my records from this period so trying to fill a few gaps if I can, Thank You

Thanks for sharing. I was at the SVR that day. Highlights for me were Deltic 15 and double-headed Westerns.

It's funny that in the 1980s I'd have seen that as a terrible day. ETH Duffs and 86s for the most part. Bit more interesting than the equivalent now that would be 195, 390, 350, 221, 390, 390, 350, 390, 195. Or similar.

Yes, I'd have been disappointed not to have a Roarer on a day out like that. But an NB duff at that time of year was a bonus.

It's amazing looking back how I took loco hailed for granted.
Would love a spin nowadays behind a naff 47/4 in large logo on a normal Inter City service.
It's as if it disappeared overnight.
Great thread.

Was probably my first long 'solo' trip so had planned and at the time was more interested in picking u a few different 'window labels' :D. Also have to remember not as easy to get any gen back then though if I had known 222 was about would have tried to get more miles out if it!

Definitely thing about the Barrow to Euston was that almost anything could produce but sadly not that day!

Great thread.

Same here, looking back just found my old haulage books from 98-92 and am digitising them. Think i thought then it would last alot longer than it did.
As for the 47's isnt one of the operators going to start running trains on the S&C with a T n T pair some time?

If the Scarborough Spa gets up and running again this year you can do a pair of 37s down Airedale from Skipton. Or back up from Keighley in the evening. In Mark 1s with the windows open.

Massive long shot I know, but having spent some time entering my old haulage logs onto an excel workbook (well those that I have managed to locate!) I have found a few really annoying gaps, mainly due to poor recording on my part at the time. Therefore I wondered if anyone of my era could possibly help me fill any of these? I am looking for numbers of the loco / units that worked the following services:

22/06/1985 10:55 Taunton to Paddington – Both HST power cars

Any help on these is greatly appreciated. Many Thanks

I believe this would have been the 07.25 Penzance-Paddington, which on 22/6/85 was formed 43128/003, 41031/2, 40327, 42045/46/47, 44015.
