I think the clue lies in whether we think this is the same Collett 4000g tender in both images - I think it is and can't find any other with matching weather pattern.

Take a look also at this image of 80080 then what I believe is 80098 and the same Hall tender behind - taken in 1975

This is the clincher. the second photo almost certainly shows 80098 as the daubed paintwork looks the same as on my photo. Other posters have 'proved' that 4920 stayed with the same Collett tender. The two tanks and the Hall appeared to stay together the whole time, even though they swapped positions. For me it's 'job done', so thank you Robin Edwards.

The 4MT behind 71000 at the front could well be 80151, still working on the one at the rear just yet.

I've a July 1966 list, 172 steam locos were present. By then, all GWR locos had arrived but some SR, LMS and BR locos had still to make the journey to Barry. plus one LNER. Nothing had departed for preservation.

I’m going for the Standard 2MT pictured behind 71000 as being 78022.
The second one isn’t my photo, but it shows all the writing to be in the same place:

When you look at the other 2MTs in the yard at that time they all have different details...

There is a photo on Flickr by Robert Gadsdon taken in 1973 clearly showing 80151 and 71000 together and in the same relative positions.

78022 is convincing. From my picture I couldn't work out whether there is a loco or a tender behind it. The photo you have shown clearly shows it's a tender. So thank you - that's 71000 signed off.

Really enjoying this. Although I agree with Ash Bridge on that pint (our commission).

Can I just throw out there that I don't think the loco front and left of 71000 is a 4MT Tank. I think it's an unrebuilt/streamlined Bullied light pacific. I'm not sure which one it might be though at this point.

These are my last two photos taken in August 1973 (but it's not the end as I went in October too).

What is behind?

What is the loco ending 79. More difficult: what are the locos behind 35010?
to the left of Blue Star is 4MT 260 76079 now running on NYMR. The Bullied behind will need further scrutiny.
Behind 53809 looks to be a Maunsell 260 - possibilities include 31625, 31638, 31806,31874,31618 although I'd need to check dates and other images.

I'm in agreement with Robin regarding 76079, I think the Southern 2-6-0 behind 53809 is probably 31806 up to now.

After much wading through photos, taking screenshots and then zooming in further I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s the only remaining N class 31874 that’s behind 53809.
The picture from @crosscity:

You can see the ‘SOLD’ writing on the smoke deflector, and in the second photo a youthful John Bunch tidying his loco up!
The second picture was taken in 1974.

Look at the curve of the tank - that's a 4MTT for sure. No other class had that distinctive shape.

I don't think I'm breaking Mr Gadsdon's copyright by directing you to the photo at https://flic.kr/p/qRhXnT

I am happy that 80151 is the loco in my picture.

You've got me convinced. The tender in front looks similar to the one next to 53809 in my photo too.

Another photo ticked off. Thank you Cowley and Ash Bridge.

I've just realised I have another query from the August visit.

03Aug73. Railrover trip. Barry Scrap Yard. Class 9F 92240. [Slide_0423]
by Ray, on Flickr
What is the locomotive behind the 2-10-0?
@crosscity - My first guess would be 8F 48518 as seen in these photos:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/dubdee/4011516615

https://www.flickr.com/photos/135290306@N02/33121246042/

A shot from the other side taken in 1975:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/dubdee/4134693406

I’ve since found photos of it with different locos next to it though.
What do you reckon?

I've had a look at the photos. Interestingly the first one (by Dubdee) was taken on the same day as mine! I have commented on his photo on Flickr to see if he is able to identify the loco.

Comparing the two photos there are clues for and against. FOR: right type of loco; casing under dome is beginning to come away in 1973 and is almost off in 1976. AGAINST: Big pipe under smokebox is rusty in 73, but not in 76; BR ensign on tender looks lower down in 73 shot. It's so tantalisingly close!

Cowley Dubdee has now replied. The 8F is, apparently, 48624!
Confirmed by a photo on this page: https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/48624-lms-8624-br-48624/
Ah look at that! Fantastic.
Could you pass on my thanks to Dubdee for the photos we’ve used for reference please?
It’s an interesting thought that you were in the yard on exactly the same day...
I must say that I’ve really enjoyed this. Barry Scrapyard has always fascinated me and I feel like all of this has taken me a little bit closer to those days.

Foolishly I had the answer myself on this picture I took in October 73.

This smoothly leads on to the next query. What is the Bulleid pacific?

No idea which Bulleid it is but I can tell you it's not 34081 as by '73 she'd still got her buffers and we'd painted her number on the smokebox.
