Any help with this appreciated please.

Two adults travelling together this Saturday with Network Railcard. Frequent travellers from Basingstoke to Norbiton via Clapham but this Saturday want to go into London first (probably via Victoria, maybe via Waterloo and possibly some underground travel as well). Leaving Basingstoke 10.00 and aiming to be at Norbiton for 14.30. Leaving Norbiton 18.00. Buying tickets on the day.
Didn't want to fall foul of any "break of journey prohibited" rules. Is it simpler just to buy the day returns from Basingstoke to Norbiton and pay for extra journeys separately? If going to Victoria would it be necessary to leave Clapham station, buy the apppropriate ticket and re-enter? Would the barrier at Clapham let you out? If going to Waterloo, would the same apply even though one is on a Waterloo-bound train from Basingstoke - albeit with a ticket valid only as far as Clapham?

Thanks

Two options:

1. Basingstoke to London Terminals Off Peak Day Return via Woking. £16.90 with network railcard. You can travel into (or from) either Waterloo or Victoria. You can break your journey at Norbiton on the way back. Obviously not valid on the tube.

2. Basingstoke to Zones 1-6 Travelcard, via Woking. £20.25 with network railcard. Same as above plus unlimited travel on trains and tubes and buses in zones 1-6.

You can get an Any Permitted route ticket for a few pence more and travel via Reading and into Paddington If that helps.

There are also cheaper Super Off-Peak via Woking tickets but these mean you must arrive in London before 09.31 or at or after 12.00. This does not seem to meet your requirements.

Given that Norbiton is just over 1.5 miles from New Malden (I thought it was less) then I think your best bet is the Travelcard as this is unequivocally valid for the side trip to Norbiton, which is in zone 5.

SWR have a special offer on at the moment (details here), so you can buy two "SWR only" super off peak day returns from Basingstoke to Norbiton for £7.90 each. These are valid via London Waterloo, but you'd need to use Oyster/contactless to get to Victoria or anywhere else on the underground. It should still be cheaper than a travelcard.

These tickets have restriction BE, so are valid all day on a Saturday.
