Looking on Google Earth this is a pretty shoddy piece of concrete between the tracks just south of Temple Meads.

Is this an operating station? or a dead one?

It's in use, about 1 train an hour in each direction.

The existing rail network in Bristol City and Greater Bristol could solve the 3rd worst congestion problem in the country (only London and Leicester have lower traffic speeds) and help contribute to the strongest English economy outside London, but the local council don't have the politcal will, hence the reason many groups and the local paper are campaigning to make transport the key issue at the next local elections. The Government has a record in under-investing in this region because it knows the local authorities are spineless.

Unfortunatly Bedminster, like all other stations around Bristol/Avon, is a total Sh!thole.

The only exceptions are Bristol TM and Parkway.

Investment is badly needed, especially at Yate for example, where the station is really totally inaequite for the size of the town in terms of facilites etc.

always thought of walking there, seems a bit of a trek though, its £1.50 return (no discount) from BTM, went there to tick it off, had to wait 20mins for the 1900 back and the yobs sitting across on the other platform didnt do any harm to me or anything but seems like its a place you wouldnt bother going to at night!

on the subject of that area, do trains still reverse at Bedminster via the old maglo sidings line?

Takes about 15/20 mins on the bus off peak and about 25 peak, to the City Centre, not sure about a bus to Temple Meads though, you'd have to change. Traveline says it takes 24 mins to walk to the city centre!
