Dutch national operator ordered 99 "new generation" EMU's for Intercity services - 20 of them will be adapted to run in Belgium. They will replace the current sets on the Amsterdam - Brussels "Benelux" service. The first of these (NS 3301) is in Belgium this week for homologation. This takes place on the Ath - Silly segment of the Brussels - Tournai line. The picture was taken at the spot called Bois de Coucou. The track in the foreground leads to the maintenance base of the the Brussels - Paris high speed line.

It will take some time before these trains are running in service: this is planned for the timetable change of 2024 (December 2023), including some other improvements for the services between Belgium and The Netherlands, but as details and agreements are still being finalised, I can't further elaborate at this moment. Also, it's just 18 trains with the Belgium package. The other two trains are going to do something different and will not have the Belgium package. Unfortunately, I can't say anything else. Just wait and see for announcements in the future :E

The regular ICNG trains for The Netherlands-only have also encountered some delays and are now planned to enter regular service in 2022, instead of the original official 2021 date.
