Persoanlly I thought (I've only seen them in photos, though) that it seemed a reasonably satisfactory attempt to fit in end gangways, not unlike a class 442, even if they were probably never used.

Fair enough. I think I should have remembered to add an "in my opinion" to that part of my post, given the unique viewpoint we all judge appearance from.

I know it is shallow to decide on the best looking trains, but hey, we all like trains, the appeal of the motion, the sound of steam, the exhilaration of the speed.
So, I ask for you to have a think of the best looking of the following.
Obviously most will rely on the colour scheme too.
so for the first five catagories, there will be two answers.

So here we go

Best looking Diesel Locomotive (current and all time)
Best looking Electric Loco (Current and all time)
Best looking DMU (current and all time)
Best looking EMU (current and all time)
Best looking railcar (current and all time)
And for all you heritage lovers
Best looking Steam loco

Give it a go, it might be fun :)

Within U.K.
All-time:-
Diesel loco: Class 55 (then 52)
Electric loco: Class 90
DMU: Trans Pennine Class 124
EMU: Class 303
Steam: Hard to decide, possibly a tie between Duchess, A4, & Rebuilt Merchant Navy.

Current
Diesel Loco: Class 67 (then 60)
DMU: Class 185
EMU: 390 for external appearance only, but loses loads of marks for interior design, so Class 444 gets my overall vote.

Overseas:
Diesel Loco: DB Class 220/221
(closely followed by the Nohabs, e.g. DSB Class MX/MY, NSB Class Di3, MAV Class M61)
Electric Loco: SJ Class Ra
Steam: DR Class 01.5

Best Steam Locomotive: SR Leader class - Like the diesels I like they are plain and utilitarian rather than embracing pointless ornamentation.
