I'm looking at clearing for photos of my GBRF 66's this year, but they seem to be a little all over the country. Can anyone recommend a good place where I could see many GBRF 66's in a day of which I can get photos of?

Thanks in advance

There's a road bridge in Doncaster somewhere near a shopping mall/retail park (I'm sure other forum members will know the exact name of this place) but I have visited this place twice whilst passing through on journeys and always seen 10+ GBRF 66's whilst there (generally only there for about an hour.... Free Peking at the retail price and a 5 minute walk to the bridge)

It looks on down to one of the sidings at Doncaster so there's a whole host of locos there (66's, 60's, 47's, 57's and even a 31 I've seen there!!)

Stabled up between duties or actually working trains?

If the latter, there is no one 'hotspot' where you will see loads of 66/7s I'm afraid;
the best is going to be somewhere like Peterborough, where you can see them on
intermodal, sand and departmental duties.

An afternoon at Nuneaton wouldn't be too bad, either!

I'd recommend those two as well, nuneaton is good for the felixstowe-bound intermodals.

Hop on an HST going north of Peterborough, at a weekend there can be up to a dozen visible. HSTs have droplight windows if you want photos.

It's perfectly easy getting pictures through the double glazed windows on a Mk4 as well - I've done it several times. The trick is to get the lens right up to the window to avoid reflections.

Whichever method you use, afternoon is better on a sunny day as the depot is on the east side of the line.

As an example here are some of my lads photos from Peterborough. He took these through the window of an EMT 158 as we were coming home from a very successful day out.

Have a look at the album and the last 9 show what is possible:-

As for the bridge at Doncaster I think this shot:-

was taken from the bridge in question. If I remember correctly, we parked up in B&Q and walked up onto the bridge. From the north side of the bridge you can see the lines stretching towards Doncaster:-

Thinks might have changed as I am sure there has been building work.

Colton Junction to the south of York is good.
It can be, but as it is summer, the Tyne Dock biomass trains are
only running 'as required', so some days are busier than others.

As an example, if you had been at Colton from 9am to 5pm today,
you would have seen four different 66/7s, but the same period last
Wednesday only saw one GB train in that same time period! :(

I find Peterborough Station can be good for the inte4rmodals and departmentals from Whitemoor or Felixstowe. Last time i was at Peterborough i noticed the bridge at Westfield Road has been made higher so you can't look towards the GBRF Depot.
