Any tips on getting a Birmingham - Newcastle return down in price?

Looking to go on Sat 16 June, return Sun 17 June, times flexible as long as it's not too early or too late.

Best advances at the moment are £27.50 out and £35.00 back.

Not really got any good advice to return a different day, other than to try using a combination of Advance fares splitting at Manchester. This can be particularly advantageous to anyone who has a 16-25 Railcard using the TPE "Student Promo" link on their website.

Another way but is unlikely to be cheaper, but it may be worth investigating in case it is, would be to get an XC advance to Peterborough, then EC advance from Peterborough to Newcastle (use the EC website for the latter, for an online discount)

Hadn't thought of Manchester, would that make the journey much longer?

I'd actually be going from Wolves and have gone via Manchester to Leeds before as there's not much in it really (and via Manchester is cheaper).
