I shall be travelling up to Newcastle towards the end of this month and would be grateful of any tips and advice. Journey details are as follows.
Outward Day 1: 24 Jun
Depart Birmingham New Street
Arrive Sheffield circa 4pm/5pm
Depart Sheffield circa 9pm/10pm
Arrive York
[overnight hotel in York]
Outward Day 2: 25 Jun
Depart York (no particular time needed - might spend a day looking around)
Arrive Newcastle - early evening at the latest
[It is possible that we might go somewhere for a day trip on the Sat/Sun so any suggestions fir things to do or rovers most welcome.]
Return: no fixed day
Anything between 27 and 29 Jun depending on price
Depart Newcastle
Arrive Birmingham New Street
Latest return time to Birmingham on Tuesday 29 Jun would be circa 4pm/5pm. Otherwise, any time is fine.
I am happy to change trains if this helps to bring the price down. Similarly, happy to take longer routes and perhaps do something en route whilst travelling back.
I hold a 26-30 railcard so the price to beat is a Birmingham to Newcastle Off Peak Return [SVR] priced £82.35
No objection to using more obscure ‘loophole’ tickets, but please be careful not to post such things publicly on this thread!
As a starter for ten: £69.25
Birmingham to Derby SVR £13.00
Derby to Sheffield SVR £15.70
Sheffield to York SHR* £18.40
York to Newcastle SVR+ £22.15
* Anytime Short Return
+ TPE only
