Hi,

Looking for the Adult First Anytime Single fare for Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton for this Friday, 1st June.

NRE are quoting two different prices - £6.30 and £4.60 - whilst VT are just quoting £4.60.

Many thanks.

You could try London midland first class, there are 2TPH from Wolverhampton to Birmingham with first class, and it's probably cheaper
Virgin also have 2 tph and their FC is far superior. The available fares are:

£6.30 is Any Permitted; £4.60 is Virgin Trains Only.
So Virgin is cheaper here (which is not uncommon where the "premium" intercity operator is not the fare setter/major operator; until recently XC had many XC-only tickets priced to undercut the main TOC).

I wonder if LM could do an LM only fare since the flow is priced by WMPTE?

But I digress, Virgin's first class is much better than LM's both in comfort but mainly for the use of the first class lounge at both ends of the journey ;)

They still do. They do an XC only Anytime Day Return Edinburgh to Glasgow for £9:70, which considerably undercuts FSR. And you get to go in a Voyager and get a spin on the WCML.

Sorry for going off topic!

They have been removed on all but that route.

Virgin's first class is nicer than LM's but between New Street and Wolverhampton for the 16-20 minute journey you are unlikely to see any benefit. First Class team will have started clearing up once the train has left New Street.

The only point to a First Class ticket between New Street and Wolves is for access to the lounges, otherwise you may as well travel standard class.

Agreed, there are 10TPHs between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, so it would be easier to just get a standard class ticket and get there faster

But for 40p more over the SDS Any Permitted you can have coffee and nibbles at both ends of the journey. As well as bag a free newspaper. And one of the two Virgin services is as fast, at 17 mins, as the best LM or XC service. The other at 22 mins is hardly slow seeing as it stops at Sandwell & Dudley and being a terminating service has a bit of padding, often arriving into WVH 2/3 minutes early.

Not if they're going to Edinburgh/Glasgow (or Holyhead) ;)
