ASDO* testing took place last week with the new stock (Cl.195) for all stations on the line to Preston.

*Automatic Selective Door Operation

Interesting they’re testing ASDO on this line... anyone know why? I thought most platforms could fit 6 x 23m car trains now, with the exception of maybe Adlington and Blackrod (although wasn’t Blackrod extended?). And that’s if we get regular 6 car trains!

Originally the 4 car 331s were planned for Stoke to Blackpool/ Liverpool to Blackpool/ Manchester Airport to Blackpool and Hadfield services. However as became well publicised recently there's an issue in the Leeds area which means 2x3 car units can't run - which was also the original plan. So this is a change of plan - the 4 car units are going to the east side and the afore mentioned services will be run as 3 or 6 car as there are a good number of stations that can cope with 6 car units, with ASDO being used for those platforms that aren't long enough.

I believe it is because trains running with ASDO enabled must use it for all calls, even when the platforms are long enough. It wouldn’t be completely fail safe if ASDO was only used at certain stations.

Interesting too that it was the 195s testing not 331s (presumably will have to be repeated with 331s). Wouldn’t expect to see many 195s on this line, especially north of Lostock
