First time out in months due to shielding, but wasn't going to miss this
Good viewpoint, but where?
Many thanks - I lived in Harpenden from 1967 to 1978 and from about a mile north of Harpenden I took shots of the Flying Scotsman on a visit in 1969. In those days the railway was not fenced...Just South of Harpenden. It was down a small country lane between Wheathampstead and Harpenden. It was the first outing to this location, and I may well be going back. The view from the other side, next to the bridge is slightly better, but with four other photographers already clambering for position I moved to the left where access to the field and footpath is.
ANPR - It might be worth checking a local map for info on when charges apply. I spotted ANPR in use close to Milton Keynes Central station, and where in past years I've spent many an idle hour... The local authority map tells me that charges don't apply after around 7pm, so I could continue. Need to check the map to be sure.We started our married life living in a mobile home in Harpenden between 1986 - 1992, loved the town. You could hear the freight trains at night as they went over the tracks North of the town, and would spend many a summers evening down at the station watching what went through. Can't do that now as many stations used ANPR !
