Sorry for the possibly confusing title....

I had a little too much time on my hands today and starting thinking about which TOCs had managed to dispense with the use of BR era rolling stock.

I came up with:

Hull Trains
TPE
Virgin West Coast
Heathrow Express (although they never operated BR stock :D)
Island Line :)

Then I drew a blank........

Depends on whether you count Heathrow Connect as part of FGW.

Island line uses ex LR 38TS which was aquiered by NSE so technically it is ex BR stock, Hull trains never had any BR stock ,

c2c, although they'll probably have some again soon.

Another question: What TOCs only use BR stock?

NXEC so far.

Merseyrail
Capital Connect (though not for much longer)

c2c? no way. 357s were built after NSE was split up!

Whereas FCC operate fully BR Only stock:

Class 03
Class 313
Class 317
Class 319
Class 365

You could count WCRC as a TOC. They have only got ex-BR stock (assuming you don't count Ronnie as a new loco).

If you had quoted correctly, you would have noticed that he was referring to c2c as a non -BR stock railway.

Also, Virgin is only a temporarily non BR, as mk3s will be working again shortly. Also, on that note, you could argue Northern run solely BR, as the 180s are only short-term, and taking into account the amount of units Northern have, I'd imagine at least 98% is of BR origin.

Northern run the 333s, though that could be the only aside from 180s.

Hull Trains did have an 86 and mk3s at one point, so they did have to use BR stock on a temporary basis.

East Midlands Trains only has 23 (soon to be 27 maybe?) meridians, and the rest are
class 08s
class 43s/mk3s
Class 153
Class 156
Class 158

Try Merseyrail for all BR stock. Mostly built prior to the 1980s, so I think that very definately counts.

The same as London Overground (150s, 313s and 508s) until their new stock takes over very soon.

I think it goes to show that all these TOCs 13yrs since BRs demise are still relying on their legacy to some degree. Im sure as we plod on slowly towards total fleet replacment the BR numbers will dwindle, but Im sure we will be seeing BR rolling stock on the network in daily service for many years to come :)
