A BRADFORD railway worker has been honoured with a prestigious bravery award for preventing a man's suicide attempt at the city's Interchange station.

Karl Richardson, who lives in the city centre, was working on the automatic ticket gates during an afternoon rush-hour shift when he was alerted to a man threatening to jump from a bridge overlooking the tracks.

He managed to talk to the man and grab him before he was able to jump, actions which have now seen him named as a global winner in the 'Heart' category of the Serco Pulse Awards.

Quite an emotional story, made me think how you never think that someone that 'just checks tickets' would end up potentially saving a life!

Hopefully the poor soul can now begin to turn his life around although it will take a lot of help and support. Always nice to read a good news story!

What a wonderful act of humanity. It couldn't have been easy to approach someone in such a state of distress, let alone pull them away from the edge and talk them down.

Nice that the employee in question wasn't sacked for a change. <(

Well done Karl, what a wonderful thing to do. Hopefully the poor man can start to turn his life around. :D
