EAST MIDLANDS TRAINS SERVICES DISRUPTED FOLLOWING RAILWAY BRIDGE COLLAPSE

•Major emergency engineering work currently taking place by Network Rail
•No trains running between Nottingham and Grantham, replacement busservices in operation on this route
•Check nationalrail.co.uk for updates and further information

As a result of a bank slip causing the collapse of a bridge at A!lington,

which is located between Nottingham and Grantham, East Midlands Trains

services between Nottingham and Grantham are currently being disrupted.

•Services between Nottingham and Skegness will start and terminate at

Grantham. Replacement bus services will run between Nottingham and

Grantham. A normal train service is planned to run between Grantham and

Skegness.
•Services between Liverpool and Norwich will be diverted and will not call

at Grantham in either direction. Passengers from Grantham are advised to

use the replacement bus services to Nottingham to connect with

Liverpool-Norwich services
•Passengers can use their East Midlands Trains tickets to travel on East

Coast services between Grantham and Peterborough

The route is likely to be closed for the next few days at least.

Any idea where the Liverpool - Norwich services are being diverted to?

Maybe reversing at Nottingham and via Leicester and Oakham? Only a guess as I can't check ATM.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Or via Lincoln and the Joint Line, though I'd say Leicester is more likely.

Liverpool - Norwich trains seem to be running OK, just missing out Grantham.

EMT also ran a Nottingham - Skegness service calling only at Lincoln, Sleaford and Boston today. Out at 10.00 and returning at around 13.30 (I think). Good thinking. Grantham - Skegness running as normal, buses Nottingham to Grantham. Norwich to Liverpool via Melton Mowbray. All are routes used by EMT and they will have drivers with route knowledge. They recommend Grantham - Nottingham passengers to travel via Newark Northgate, though that involves a lengthy walk to Castle station that might prove difficult to follow for strangers.

Certainly a busy morning between Syston and Peterborough, with a route learner knocking around as well as the diverted Norwich trains (and plenty of freight).

Yes.
I was at East Midlands Parkway earlier and it was quite unusual to see 158's zipping through the station on the fasts.

Cheers Jason

There was a HST through Boston about 14.00 today. Not sure what service, maybe the normal to Nottingham. Bet the pax had a surprise !

More problems caused by banks! I hope they are not expecting any bonuses this time.

Top marks to Network Rail. I honestly thought from the photo on Twitter that we where looking at weeks rather than days. No doubt they will get very little praise from the great travelling public or the media.

Of course! This is the same as the incredible work they did to reopen the ECML and WCML after the landslips a few weeks ago (they did it in less than 18 hours by my reckoning) and going on the pictures of those they were even worse than this. Yet their was barely a mention of that fact in the media. If it isn't a bad news story or some massive investment then the media aren't interested.

Then there was the two derailments either side of Scotland last week again caused by landslides in torrential rain. Both routes up & running next day

presumably these site get subjected to a fairly rigorous level of inspection once back in service and potentially further work at night/during other suitable engineering periods

And the sad side is that not only did most of the media pay no attention to the remarkable effort performed to achieve the recovery, in total ignorance, they may take the result as the benchmark for any recovery from future occurances, no matter how dissimilar. There is a learning here and Netwrok Rail would be wise to exploit it, if and when they have a spare moment.

Oh, and if perchance Network Rail overspends their 2012 budget then let us all remind the media that they did it whilst getting operations back up and running as fast as possible to the benefit of the nation.

One good thing that Network Rail does already is (as we have seen) to post photos of incidents on Twitter... they just need to get to a wider audience.

When people see the problem, they understand better why their journey has been disrupted.

And they are more willing to accept it.
Its quite amazing to see how many people expect the driver / guard / train manager / platform staff / whoever to suddenly fix the problem with a magic wand!
By seeing the reason for the disruption, people should actually then realise that some serious repairs need to be done and it isn't just someone deciding to have fun by delaying services!
