does anyone know how fast the train was going?
The line speed here is 90 mph. This was an Arun Valley Line train so would have called at Redhill and the next stop would be East Croydon. It is normal for an Arun Valley train to begin to be checked at about this location for Stoats Nest Junction where it is scheduled to be routed over the 70 mph crossover to the Fast Lines.
In normal running you could expect the train to be doing 70 to 80 mph here.
