Would it be possible to reopen the platforms on the Catford Loop line at Brixton and build new platforms/re-open East Brixton on the Atlantic Lines?

Would there be any benefit to this?

I suspect the Atlantic Lines platforms, would be extremely beneficial, but also extremely expensive.

It often gets mentioned on these Forums but really would be extremely expensive. It would also be unimaginably disruptive during the stage-works and for such a big project you would want to include 'direct' access to the Underground too.

In the process you would risk 'destroying Brixton' as a community, arguably for the benefit of 'through/interchange' passengers who didn't actually live there.

It has one pair of half width platforms. It needs three pairs of full width platforms to be safe and useful. It probably also needs another 10-20tph on the Victoria line to deal with these extra people.

The Catford Loop platform (there's only one, barely half length too) can't be served by Overground, and new build would be disallowed because of the sharp curve. East Brixton is nowhere in particular.

See this recent thread from post #12

I am well aware that Overground trains cannot use the Catford Loop Brixton platforms if they were to be built/rebuilt.

Thankyou for linking the thread.

It seems to me that this is a bit like the Camberwell proposal, could be useful, but would be really expensive and disruptive during construction meaning it won't be cost effective.

Speaking as an occasional passenger on long distance services that travel through Brixton, I see little benefit to interchanging there as one can access most places from Victoria.

As a (former) regular one, joining the trains at Brixton would ensure you can actually get on one. Stockwell and Vauxhall fill each train up alone, let alone the crush at Victoria.

Not if lots of people who normally board at Victoria swap to Brixton.
