Anyone got more info on this? Apparently it's completely blocking the lines, according to the driver of Romsey via Southampton train. London train hasnt got in, though the one from Exeter is apparently all right so I'll get that if it never arrives.

EDIT: Announcement just said faulty signalling at waterloo!

A broken down freight train is causing disruption between Basingstoke and Micheldever.

Because of this, there are delays of up to 30 minutes between Basingstoke and Eastleigh. These delays will continue until further notice.

Oh no, not another class 70 conked out?!

* There also seems to be a Signalling dofficulty at Waterloo, seperate to this.

70001 is the one in trouble, although not on fire like the others.

159102 (for the 1521) just parked in the 9 car spot when it's a 6-car train - so it's either a mistake or they have found an extra three coaches to make up for it.

Whenever we hear that magic saying 'delays due to a broken down freight train' I think our natural reaction is to point a finger at the class 70s these days :p

Although, new locos are always going to have teething troubles when they are first introduced, so we shouldn't be too surprised even though they seem to be dropping like flies!

Guard on this train, though it was hard to hear, I think just called it a derailed freight train! Chinese whispers going on somewhere!

159019 incidentally, before I forget, the middle carriage, is having that automated announcement cutting out issue.

As soon as i saw this i thought of another barbequed 70

If its failed on 1 line, then why do both lines need to be blocked - surely you could keep 1 line running ?

It probably failed across the junction as most freight through Basingstoke will take the Reading lines rather than the main line.

Correct, 70001 now declared complete failure at Battledown and engine shut down - awaiting 1Z99 from Soton MT - In that case, it sounds like its failed just across the junction part where 4 tracks into 2 for Southampton.

So, Although not another fire, to coin the classic track - Another Bites The Dust...And sadly, yet again up here in North Hampshire (They dont like this area, do they?)

Coming soon: an advert in Auto Trader. "For Sale. 19- er, 18- er, 17 nearly new freight locomotives. Any offer gratefully accepted or px for Class 66s." Or perhaps they'll be on the phone to DRS: "Er, those 57s we sold you... er, fancy a swap for these nearly new ...."

As soon as I read this I was thinking now which class 70 has gone up in flames now.

I know I shouldnt but I can't help coming up with a game of guess which class 70 is next to burn
