Hi all,

I note that a broken down train is causing disruption along the WCML north of Lockerbie.

Looking on the net, one of the first trains to be delayed is the 12:30 Euston to Glasgow. I'm taking a guess at this being the affected train.

Does anyone know any more? (E.g. unit involved/the fault/what's dragging it etc)

Thanks

Whatever was on 6S36 failed. It was moved into Beattock Summit siding, apparently.

Ah thanks alot for the updates.

NRES sometimes specifies the problem as a freight train, when it's a freight working, so I wrongly assumed it was a passenger working which had failed.

Strangely enough I encountered the same problem myself around two years ago just south of Beattock. A 92 broke down just prior to Beattock, requiring assistance from the Carlisle t/b.

I actually enjoyed that particular journey, as I had only one other passenger in my FC coach, who I had a friendly chat to, and the train crew were very good in keeping us informed (and offered more drinks & sandwiches). In the end we were there for 90 mins, but It would've been much worse had I been in SC.

Its very rare for a Pendolino to completely fail.

I thought that myself. The 1630 Euston to Glasgow was 50+ late yesterday, 'due to a train fault'.

Are the VT 221's as reliable? What are the most common issues? Tilt problems with TASS?

Yesterdays Pendolino fault was a brake fault on one of the carriages which then had it's brakes isolated. I've forgotten the unit number but it was a 390/1.

Very rarely seem to hear of problems with Voyagers on the West Coast.

And Virgin heavily compensate you when it does happen. An 11 car Pendo failed at Stafford and I got the full single fare from Stafford to Euston even though my train arrived only 35 or so minutes late!

Ok, thanks for your help James.
