out of interest is there any particular reason that buffers are different shapes, ie cl56,47,37 tend to have the large round type but have also been fitted with smaller oval ones. is this done to differenciate between the sub classes or just what was decided to fit. just curious thats all tvm:)

Isn't this something to do with the danger of buffers interlocking on tight curves with certain kinds of wagons?

Think its just "whats prefered" at the time.................dont know if its still the case but I remember a class 47 or 57 at Kingmoor (DRS) last year with odd non matching buffers on one end
