Thinking about it, would it be beneficial for the UK to partially fund construction of LGVs on the contingent?

Two examples of ones I think might come under this

LGV Picardie (Calais-Amiens-Paris), taking 20 minutes off of the London-Paris journey time

Calais-Ghent-Antwerp, providing a fast route to the Netherlands avoiding the need to go via both Lille & Brussels, as well as accessing Ghent.

Calais/Lille-Amiens-Rouen-Le Havre, allowing the west of France to access London and Brussels/Holland without needing to go via Paris.

No it wouldnt. We cant even build our own HSL so why bother with the Frenchies who seem to do a better job.

You could easily argue we partially fund construction of High Speed lines on the continent through EU grants anyway (Which make up quite a bit of their funding I believe). Directly giving money to the French for construction of HSLs would be political suicide, especially given our slow progress with HS2.
