Probably had my last C-Stock journey on Saturday, between Putney Bridge and Earls Court. Unlike the 1967 and A Stock, I will not be sad to see these go, as they've been in an absolutely lamentable condition the last few years. :|

I recently watched some video of the C stock from the 1990's.

Now thats when they were really bad... graffitti, etched paintwork, etc. At least though they had nice transverse seating.

A short clip of this will be in my 'S stock contrasts and variations' film, when I finally finish it!

just gotta script and image the bit about the rich heritage of trains used on the subsurface lines over the years. Its a shame that I cant show the F stock or anything from the early days of electrification. I've got a little CO/CP stock footage from when I was a teenager; will use that when talking about the ATO on the District Line. To return to this thread, yes there will be some C stock too, albeit when it was in full service / not scrapped units.

As from the afternoon of Mon 10 Feb all H&C/Circle workings scheduled to be S7.
District keeping 8x C for a little while longer, so the District Line workings from Hammersmith (H&C)-Edgware Rd will continue to be C Stock.

Was in London today and all that was on the section from Aldgate - Hammersmith was S Stocks. Never saw a single C Stock. Seems really odd since last time I was down - November - it was hard to find an S Stock. District Line is next on the hit list and that should be full S stock by next year from what I've heard, although I'm quite glad to see all the old sub-surface stock go as the S Stock to me is really quite nice and their ride quality is brilliant when compared to the other stock.

So progress has certainly accelerated. For a while at West Ham last August it looked as though at least 1/2the H&Cs were still C stock. I should be in London in March and thus be able to ride an S7 for the first time. (I have done S8 on 2 occasions already.)

2 were in the Circle for most of the day, with a third joining them in the evening, one also onto the H&C late-on.

They must have been running close together then (2 or 3 trains apart max)? Never saw them once which is why I was so shocked considering that last time I was down it was hard to find S Stock!

At the pace these have gone, the District Line will be equally as quick.

Has anyone heard of any sort of farewell tour like they had on the Met for the H&C/Circle? I suspect the District Line will have a tour but that isn't likely to be for another year at least.

Yesterday they were running with a gaps of 8/6/2 trains between.

Today, 2 were together then a gap of 11 until the 3rd.

4 S7s should be on the District before the end of February, with the remaining 4 C Stocks removed in May.

Farewell runs are being planned but only after they have been removed from service. It will not serve all locations that currently operate C Stock.

Any pointers as to which trains these are? I scanned through the WTT but can't seem to spot any.

I was out on the Circle yesterday chasing the C Stock down, was quite shocked as to how few there were - when I was last in London in December there were only a handful of S7s on the Circle.

Am I right in thinking there are some places (I think High Street Ken - Edgware Road) on the District that D stock can't go because they are slightly too wide?

Can the new S* trains cover all routes on all the subsurface lines or will there still be some restrictions on certain routes?

D Stock are in gauge for Edgware Road (have taken one there myself), they are too long for the platforms, SDO doesn't cover enough doors and D Stock have no cab CCTV (which allows S Stock to berth in the tunnel).

Can the new S* trains cover all routes on all the subsurface lines or will there still be some restrictions on certain routes?
The only restrictions for S7s are; not into Putney Bridge2; not into Mansion House2 -unless extreme emergency; unable to use Parsons Green 29Rd.

So the restrictions are length based not width based.

So running the route is not an issue but some stops may have to be skipped?

The following C Stock rakes were out on 3rd February, not quite a complete list as I missed at least a couple of Wimblewares:

5511 + 5715 + 5728
5705 + 5546 + 5717
5594 + 5553 + 5733
5598 + 5570 + 5565
5703 + 5547 + 5707
5538 + 5552 + 5720
5721 + 5531 + 5578
5534 + 5586 + 5550
5522 + 5555 + 5549
5545 + 5524 + 5529
5712 + 5551 + 5516
5592 + 5517 + 5533

At one point all three platforms at Hammersmith held C Stock simultaneously; not a very common sight these days!

D Stock would simply not run to Edgware Road, they would need to non-stop Notting Hill, Bayswater & Paddington.
D Stock are narrower than C Stock, S Stock are narrower than both at platform level.

There are only three other trains of C stock still in service*, so that would suggest only one of them was not used in service on that day.

However I have noticed a couple of errors in that list. 5533 is listed twice, the unit with 5586 and 5550 is actually 5534. Also 5537 should be 5531 (unit 5537 was withdrawn in November).

*These are (or were) formed:
5501-6501 + 6709-5709 + 6543-5543
5580-6580 + 5729-6729 + 6726-5726
5596-6596 + 5560-6560 + 6727-5727

How quickly do they get cut up at the scrappers yard?

Do they have lines of old C stock sets waiting for the deed to happen, or are they always cut up as soon as they arrive?

Oh dear, that's what happens when one tries to copy lists out at 01.00 in the morning when fighting to stay awake; I will edit the post tonight to correct the errors!

Correction now made - my notebook does indeed match units 5531 and 5534 as you suggested.

I have copied Post 169 out and stickied it for the time-being, so that it makes updating easier for you and locating this information easier for others.

In the East...
From afternoon of 10/2:
H&C: -1(0)M-F, (0)SAT, (0)SUN.
Circle: -2(0)M-F, -3(0)SAT, -4(0)SUN.
District: (8) daily.

Apologies if this comes across as a daft question, but does this imply that C Stocks will be doing their final running on the 2 lines on the Monday morning? Or is Friday their last 'planned' day on the Circle and H&C?

I have to point out that as the Monday diagram finishes around lunchtime, that makes Sunday the final planned full day of C Stock Circle / H&C operation.

( I have had it suggested to me that there may well be a C or two out on Sunday... )

Presumably there will be a couple of diagrams out on Saturday too?

3 are scheduled on the Circle on Saturday, 4 on Sunday.
None are scheduled on the H&C at weekends although one of those Circle workings on Sunday stables at Barking.

This is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know the full diagrams for the last two runs this Monday? Hoping to cover as much of them as I can. Thanks in advance!

You must have been quite unlucky really, because I used at least two different Cs on the Circle on the 1st February, first between Kings Cross and Edgware Road (about 09:00) and later in the day (15:00) between Embankment and Paddington- both of which were totally unplanned and just lucky.

I agree with your comments about the S stocks, even if they do sound like ice cream vans when the doors open!
