Camera filters

Anyone know of a site with some information on what filters and lens there are for digital cameras and what kind of use they would be?
All i can find is retailers with no real information on uses.

I still remember the days before digital going out photting with a friend who was well into photography, even having his own darkroom. I was always amazed how he seemed to have a different filter for every occasion. I just could not afford the film in those days...

The result for Jessops may seem a bit strange, but I have had a look on there, and they do give a fair bit of information on each product.

I use a HOYA SKYLIGHT 1B for my EOS 350D SLR camera, i just use it to protect the lens

Thanks for the links guys.
Dennis was it you (and i think it was)that said a polarising filter would block out reflections from bridges because that's my main problem at the moment.

That is correct, a polarising filter can help eliminate unwanted reflections although you do have to rotate them to a certain angle.

And they help protect the lens.

This article also mentions graduated filters. These are great for getting some colour in the sky, just don't overdo it with these otherwise your phots will end up looking like the Top Gear camera crew have been at work.
