Can the outward portion of this Cheap Day Return be zero excessed ?

A group of us are planning the cliff edge walk from Seaford (SEF) to Eastbourne (EBN). The original plan was to get High Wycombe (HWY) to EBN CDRs, alighting ( stopping short) at Lewes and buying a single from Lewes to SEF. The walk finishes in Eastbourne from where we can use the return portion of our tickets. Would it be possible to zero excess the outward portion of our CDR so we can travel to SEF without paying for the extra ticket covering the LEWES-SEF leg of the journey ?

HWY-EBN CDR : £41.00
HWY-SEF CDR : £38.50
