Going to Newcastle from Perth today, Leaving at 16.00 and getting the Aberdeen-Kings Cross service at Edinburgh at 17.26. As it's one of 3 trains to London from Aberdeen, wouldnt the chances of getting a seat be slim? Would I get a better seat if I were to board at Inverkeithing?

In my experience it tends to be busy from Edinburgh but empties out at Dunbar quite a bit. That being said I would have thought you'd have a decent chance of getting a seat. But if it were me and there was no cost/time penalty I'd probably join at Inverkeithing as that should give more time to find a suitable unreserved seat.

Too late now but yes I'd always join at Haymarket at the latest.
