How many early mk2 carriages are still around and certified to run on the mainline?

I'm interested in the non-aircon Mk2abc design? Where are they based? Who owns them and what liveries are they in?

Theres a few.
I can count a grand total of 1: Staff coach 977969. The vast majority of survey or inspection coaches in the Network Rail fleet (excluding generator vans, and the ultrasonic test train) are either air-con mark 2s or mark 3s these days.

Well you are obviously the expert, I just used to drive them or cook my food in them.

Some helpful and interesting stuff here. Thank you.

I'd love to see a full charter rake of them carrying INTERCITY swallow livery. Don't think (m)any ever did?

There was one BFK, 17042, in a Landcruise rake (See below), but other than that I don't think that Intercity Swallow livery was widespread on pressure ventilated mark 2s (It may be a unique example).

Some mark 2C BFKs received Intercity Executive livery for use on Crosscountry services to Edinburgh/Glasgow, but even these were in the minority:

There's more information on an old thread on RMweb:

If you can provide some examples as evidence to the contrary then that'd be helpful, but if ever there were then they don't seem to be in use now.

Bizarre, FOCTOC. Why the attitude? Appealing to your authority means nothing without evidence.

I think he's being serious and not sarcastic when he says "You're the expert". Life on the internet is much easier if you always use the more generous interpretation when you have to decide whether or not something is sarcasm :)
