£39.50 is your cheapest "walk up" return fare, but it's not a CDR; it's an Off Peak Return (Saver) and the return portion is valid for 30 days after the outward portion.

If you have lots of time to kill, LM will sell you £23 Cheap Day Returns (now named Off Peak Day Return) but it's a long journey.

Similarly Chiltern from Marylebone to Snow Hill sell you a £29.59 "Chiltern Metro" ticket, or £30 off peak return. If you're leaving London or Birmingham during a peak time, these tickets are probably your cheapest option (both are valid on all direct Chiltern services).

On Saturday, your cheapest fare is the £39.50 Off Peak Return (ex Saver), valid on all trains. As I've said, though, if you've got time to spare you can be cheaper going the other ways but I imagine you'd rather go Virgin :) (And I don't blame you).

When are you going? WCML is closed yet again on Sats from 22nd November.

Should be a £15 'Off Peak Day Return' London Midland Only if you are going via Northampton - no time restrictions at weekends

The return fares from Llandwanwg (LDN) to Birmingham (BHM) are as follows:

£43.30 for an Off Peak (valid at any time)
£21.70 for an Anytime Day

Please note that you should always use correct 3-letter codes, or if you are unsure of the codes please write the station names in full. Thanks :)
