    Hi,

    Please can you advise the cheapest available tickets for travel on 19th August from Bristol (Parkway or Temple Meads) to Reading.

    I need to be in Reading by 8.45am and can leave anytime same day after 1pm.

    Many thanks in advance.

    The cheapest option would seem to be a Super Offpeak Return from Filton Abbey Wood station to Reading at £45.10.

    In the morning, it is valid on a limited number of trains, the first of which is the 0744 which is a through train arriving at 0846. Coming back, it seems to be valid on most afternoon trains involving travel via Bristol Parkway (generally with a change at Bristol Parkway). I think you would be fine to finish your return journey at Bristol Parkway. However, I personally wouldn't use this ticket to start my outward journey from Bristol Parkway, even if a strict reading of restriction code XC might be thought to allow that.

    Restriction text for said ticket available at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/XC.

    Given that the train caught would be departing Bristol Parkway before 1015, I don't think that would be permitted, strict reading of the restriction text or not.

    If not in a hurry - maybe these anytime day returns

    BRISTOL<->PEWSEY

    £17.10

    PEWSEY<->NEWBURY

    £9.00

    NEWBURY<->READING

    £9.40

    Total £35.50

    ?

    ... unfortunately, the works at Bath make this a very slow route.

    0509 arrives 0806
    0524 arrives 0850

    If bb21 is right, it would seem to follow that the journey planners on the National Rail Enquiries, and Virgin Trains East Coast, websites are misinterpreting restriction code XC, since both of those journey planners show the £45.10 ticket as valid on the 0744 from Filton Abbey Wood to Reading.

    The 0744 from Filton Abbey Wood does not stop at Bristol Parkway

    Same issue. Falls foul of the restriction at Swindon.
