What ticket is that £24.40? It isn't listed anywhere on an FGW fares enquiry.

There's a £26.40 superoff peak single. I doubt if you will better that with walkon tickets.

With advance singles you may do - try Westbury as a split if there are no through ones at a price you like

But don't get on a direct EXD-RDG with a split ticket.

Or it's combined with a south west rover or a ticket to Tiverton Parkway and a Seven and Solent rover.

With singles you won't save any money splitting because on FGW priced fares to London singles are around half the price of a return while non London fares are only slightly less than the return fare. The £26.40 super off peak single doesn't seem like bad value anyway. Advance fares start from £7.90 if you can be restricted to a single train.

How fast do you need to get into London?

Megatrain might be an option.

If you can find the right times, advances start from £4.30 to Southampton Central or from £3.95 to Salisbury. Both have Megatrain quota. In addition, Southampton - London Victoria have lots of £2.95 advances if booked on Southern website.

Lots of choices you have.

Actually it's on fares from outside the Network Area to within it (or vice versa), not just to London. Not that that helps in this case!
