I mean buy a ticket in the business zone class like you would buy a first class ticket.
It's an upgrade, like Weekend First, which is subject to availability (not just because it may be full; a change of train type may occur).

Most TOCs don't sell Weekend First upgrades in advance because of the uncertainty of availability, so it makes sense not to sell these upgrades in advance either.

Just to confirm, is the business zone supplement still payable even if a passenger holds a first class ticket?

Chiltern state: 'First class season ticket holders have complementary use of the Business Zone'. I've not seen one of these trains in over 2 months now - just the short-formed heritage 168 stock. On Friday an ex-Marylebone to Snow Hill train had only 2 coaches. London. To. Birmingham.
