Chiltern seem to make it hard to get into Business Zone, unless you want to pay on the day there isn't an easy way I've found to book it.

You don't need to. You just upgrade on board if there's a seat, and if there isn't (or a DMU substitutes for the LHCS, or it's cancelled) you haven't wasted your money.

It's an upgrade, like Weekend First, which is subject to availability (not just because it may be full; a change of train type may occur).

Most TOCs don't sell Weekend First upgrades in advance because of the uncertainty of availability, so it makes sense not to sell these upgrades in advance either.

No, first class tickets are accepted without the supplement.

Chiltern state: 'First class season ticket holders have complementary use of the Business Zone'. I've not seen one of these trains in over 2 months now - just the short-formed heritage 168 stock. On Friday an ex-Marylebone to Snow Hill train had only 2 coaches. London. To. Birmingham.
