Every so often Chiltern have ECS workings to Willesden TMD, via Neasden Jn, and Acton Canal Wharf. Any ideas what work they go there for?

I do remember seeing a 172 there about 1 week ago, at a guess it is for maintenance as London Overground have the same units.

One of the 172 diagrams is booked to go there every Friday night for maintenance returning on Monday morning. This is due to them not being trip cock fitted and can only get to Aylesbury via the branch line. Sometimes the path is used for a 165 for Tyre Turning.

I was under the impression they could run via Amersham if sandwiched between 165/168's is that the case?

The 172 has to go to Willesden for exam work as this is not done by Chiltern staff at the moment. As we only have 4 of these units, it was not deemed as practical to train all of the depot staff on them. Usually they have major work done on them such as engine or transmission changes. As stated earlier the unit goes over on Friday evening and returns on Monday morning.

172's can run boxed in via the Met. But the accepted way is to go via High Wycombe. Tyre tuning on the 172's is indeed carried out at Aylesbury.

All Chiltern stock has tyre turning carried out at Aylesbury.
