Looked across to Paddington Live Departures and there to my dis-believe, Chiltern Railways from Banbury?

Is this common?

In a word, yes. This happens all the time. The services run via Greenford.

Marylebone is closed at weekends at the moment so Chiltern are going into Paddington instead

As well as diverted services, there are also two scheduled services most weekdays. The 0530-ish from Aylesbury, and another one which starts at Princes Risborough (Wednesdays Excepted IIRC)

The service is the 1116 (not sure) from Princes Risborough.

I heard something about them having to run into Paddington for those two services each day to "keep the right to use the station" or something...?

There isnt, as far as I am aware, a return service.

And yes Tom it returns ECS.....unless Chiltern send trains to Paddington and never see them again.

There is most definately a return service from Paddington to Princes Risborough, been on it twice!

Paddington 1255
West Ruislip 1315
Denham 1319
Gerrads Cross 1325
then all stations to Princes Risborough (1356)

However this train, and the inbound from Princes Risborough (1128), do not run into Paddington on Wednesdays. On Wednesdays these trains terminate/start from Marylebone instead!

The 0526 ex Aylesbury to Paddington (0642), however, runs back from Padd dead to High Wycombe to form a commuter service back south into Marylebone. You are getting the two trains mixed up!!

I thought there had been a few services like that for a while, not just the Paddington ones? I may be wrong though...

In this case, though, it's a potentially very useful diversionary route to maintain a Chiltern service of sorts into London, if the Marylebone line is blocked for whatever reason...so it's important to keep drivers' route knowledge up to date.
