Multi-million pound plans to revamp one of London's busiest railway stations have been revealed to the public.
The new £400m designs for Clapham Junction include two 39-storey residential towers with 500 homes and a revamped two-level shopping centre.

Improvements to the train station include lift access to platforms and a new entrance on St John's Hill.

The plans will be on show from 1400 GMT in the shopping centre until Saturday and available online.

Shame it's not being renamed to something a little more sensible like Wandsworth Central or Battersea Junction.

It will remain to sound like a pig with venereal disease, Clap Ham at a turning point in it's life, Junction.

Finaly nice to know where Network Rail is going to get the money from for all these improvments, maybe they'll have an escilator from a flat to the platform that they'd want to get to work by request, hehe

What do you mean, a little bit more sensible?, Clapham Junction is fine, Wandsworth Central would sound horrible.

But it's not in Clapham and the station followed naming conventions of the time, which is why it's named so.

However, it surprised me to find out quite how old the idea of "rebranding" actually is. Because - and Councillor Belton should prepare himself for a fit of apoplexy at this point - it was precisely for this reason that Clapham Junction was given its name when it was built in 1863 by the London & South Western Railway and the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway to accommodate a burgeoning rail network.

The rail companies, targeting an affluent, middle-class clientele, thought the genteel village of Clapham, a mile to the east, had a much more attractive image than Battersea, which had a more, shall we say, industrial tradition (Prices Candles, for example, which probably weren't as sweetly scented then as they are now).

Given today's naming conventions, I should think South London Interchange is more likely, or if we wanted to be very radical, how about The South Central Connect.

Those names would be horrendous! No offence ;).

Leave it as it is! Changing the name would cause more confusion with the norms. Crikey, they can hardly figure out a simple interchange at Paddington onto the H+C sometimes, so changing Clapham Junction to something as ridiculous as 'South London Parkway' would be a whole new source of confusion.

No, I don't like the idea of renaming it.

Wouldn't Canary Wharf, The Houses of Parliament or Buckingham Palace be a better target for a terrorist than a set of posh flats above a train station?
