Class 221 or Class 222 to CrossCountry

So I was thinking about which of these Bombardier Voyager Fleets will be transferring to CrossCountry franchise after the new AT300 fleets replace them? Could it be 20 Class 221 Super Voyagers or 27 Class 222 Meridians or could it be both? It depends if the new fleets come to Avanti West Coast or East Midlands Railway comes first.

I don't think it does.

It depends on
* whether the DfT is prepared to pay for either fleet to operate on the XC network (which it may well not be)
* whether there is a recovery in passenger numbers
* whether there is depot, stabling, maintenance facilities suitable to operate the additional trains.
* whether the DfT is prepared to allow the increase in staff numbers on XC to operate the additional trains

Clearly the 221s are closer to compatibility with the existing XC fleet than the 222s but it could easily be the case that neither fleet transfers to XC.

That's a good point. I was thinking the same thing too. Class 805 and 807 AT300 will come to Avanti West Coast franchise and will replace 20 Class 221 Super Voyager fleets and will transfer to CrossCountry first before 27 Class 222 Meridians

It is quite possible, perhaps probable, that neither fleet will transfer.
