They never seem that bothered with farewell trips. The last 303 was a one way trip from Bellgrove to Helensburgh quite early in the morning. Surely they could have found a suitable diagram for them to run all day?
They were originally purchased for the Argyle Line, so here is a random diagram from that line Spoiler: Argyle Line Diagram 5L02 0521 Yoker C.S. - Dalmuir 2L02 0551 Dalmuir - Larkhall 2L05 0703 Larkhall - Milngavie 2C18 0839 Milngavie - Cumbernauld 5F21 1006 Cumbernauld - Cumbernauld 2F21 1019 Cumbernauld - Dalmuir 2R30 1203 Dalmuir - Motherwell 2F31 1316 Motherwell - Dalmuir 2R40 1432 Dalmuir - Whifflet 5S03 1529 Whifflet - Whifflet 2S03 1558 Whifflet - Dalmuir 5L24 1654½ Dalmuir - Dalmuir 2L24 1718 Dalmuir - Larkhall 2L03 1833 Larkhall - Milngavie 2C22 1939 Milngavie - Cumbernauld 5F25 2113 Cumbernauld - Cumbernauld 2F25 2121 Cumbernauld - Dalmuir where the train splits. -------------------------------------- Front Unit. Thanks for the info, it's a poor show. I get the impression that the RM is more interested in displaying a collection than engaging with the recent history of the city's transport networks. Just the cab and first few metres of a 314 driving coach - they could even mount it on the wall - would be better than what we'll almost certainly get, which is nothing. How about a replica 303 cab, wraparound windows the lot, side by side with the 314, while they're at it? Okay, nothing then...
Or they could put it next to the Class 380 front end that’s currently on display. SPT Orange livery please!
Plenty of 314s out and about today. 11:00 - 11:45 saw 208 (on its own on the 11:15 Cathcart Cirlce but reported as MO a couple of pages back), 210 (Paisley Canal), 211 (Cathcart Circle then Neilston) , 216 (Gourock) and around 16:30 : 203 and 214 I believe I also saw 206 but wouldn't go to the wall for it.
Out of curiosity, is it known when we expect to see the last 314s removed from traffic? Apologies if it’s been mentioned earlier in the thread, I’ve beem trying to keep track of it and don’t recall anyone mentioning any ideas of dates?
According to the scot-rail 314 Formations page, 314201 has been stored, it was last used on 28th December.
Monday 28 Jan at Glasgow Cen 209 on 1315 and 1615 Cathcart Inner 210 on 1620 Neilston Uniden 314 on 1257 Wemyss Bay and 1612 Paisley Canal
It has been reported elsewhere that at least one coach of 314212 was sighted on the M74 heading south.
Yes. On a couple of occasions last year I got 314's on the Larkhall line. Was late on Saturday/ Sunday during the works on the line and was diverted via Kings Park.
It's last working was the now infamous 07:55 Neilston to Glasgow on that date. A few of them have done that train and then gone to Shields for the last time.
The 314s ran to Lanark and Larkhall a few times last year. They have also gone to Motherwell via Bargeddie and Whifflet, there is a video on YouTube. However, they haven't run along the Argyle line tunnel, in passenger service, for a very long time.
314s have stepped up to cover Glasgow Central to Lanark services on many occasions since those services switched to the high level. Not exactly a regular occurrence but not unknown either.
Wednesday 30th Jan at Central 215 on 1315 Cathcart Inner 207 on 1342 Glasgow C - Paisley Canal 209 on 1345 Glasgow - Newton
Looking at those stopped already, I reckon another may well be stopped tomorrow Think 207 must be close to being stopped again
Is there any particular order that the units are being stopped in? If so does anyone have any idea which units will be the last in service?
207 on last night’s 2035 Neilston run from Central, 215 doing the honours tonight. 215 looking fairly tired interior-wise
I think someone mentioned that 314 201 is expected to be one of the last units in service if that's any help?
I was in Glasgow today around lunchtime and saw the following 314's Shields 314201, 314206, 314205. 205 was on the same track as 201 and 206 but had its pantograph up. Glasgow Central 314216 xx.12 to Paisley Canal 314215 xx.42 to Paisley Canal 314203 11.45 to Newton via Maxwell Park 314208 11.55 to Gourock 314209 12.25 to Gourock 314210 12.45 to Newton via Maxwell Park 314214 12.51 to Cathcart Inner circle 314211 12.57 to Weymss Bay
I'm sure it wont have escaped notice that there are 3 x 380 4 car diagrams on the Neilston route (a 25 min journey end to end) whereas there are 3 x 314s still on Inverclydes. I realise that ScotRail have put the 380's on the Neilston route for passenger loading purposes - those Inverclydes mentioned above will likely be lightly loaded in comparison - but I could see that being contentious if someone were to highlight it.
I’m loving it though as I don’t see that big a deal with 314s. At least I didn’t until today when one failed at Gourock resulting not only in the cancellation of my train but also the next stopper too as bizarrely ScotRail decided to rescue the failed unit (which was safely out of the way in the platform at Gourock) using the next available 314 meaning two peak hour cancellations rather than just one. Quite why it couldn’t wait till after the peak I have no idea.
I can’t help but think the 314s were always neglected throughout the years. In a way they were like the 320s - they were pretty basic inside without toilets, were only capable of 75mph. However the 320s were fully refurbished and received toilets. They were upped to 90mph. Over the years the 314s remained basic without any refurb work until about 2012 which was their first major overhaul. They have been great units aside from that but in comparison to the 380s and 385s there’s no comparison. Times have changed, it’s time to move on. I do hope however that they preserve a unit and put it on display in a mainstream museum in Glasgow.
