Driving to work last night, on the A34 southbound at Oxford, went past a wide load with escort vehicles etc. Was surprised to see some sort of rail coach on the low loader, even more surprised to see it was a Scotrail liveried vehicle.

I’m not 100% sure but the number looked to be 64589 which according to Abrail would make it from 314204.

Looks like you saw 204 on its way to Eastleigh.

That's my pic and tweet, I can't confirm the id but I'm presuming that it's 204. I guess it'll go the same way as the SE 508s.

Hi,

Does anyone know exactly how many 314s are still available for service?

Thanks.

I guess it's probably the last chance to pop to Glasgow and ride on the dear old things again, but time is required for such a trip...

As mentioned up thread, there will still be five 314 diagrams come the May timetable change. So there's time yet.

Ooh thanks, that sounds promising. I will just have to figure out exactly which lines will have 314s when I know which day I'm going.

That is a very good question, I've no idea if the remaining diagrams will be limited to a specific route/routes or a mixture.

Without any inside info, Id say most likely will be Cathcart routes and Paisley Canal.

From what I've heard they'll be replaced by 385s on the Inverclyde routes.

No 385 on Inverclyde lines I believe.
318/320 to cover a few runs I believe.

There will be a 385 at peak time to Gourock and Gourock/Corkerhill/Shields and Glasgow Central electric drivers who work Inverclyde routes are passed out on them.

According to the chap on Flickr it's in for a brake and bogie overhaul....a few more units to follow. Will be interesting to see if transpires...hopefully!

I'm curious why, they aren't going on to further use AFAIK, unless something has changed.

:D It does seem to be a long way to take these just to be scrapped .

I'd love to think they might find useful elsewhere, but practically who would want them, could use them and aren't they a bit done in after 40 years really?
